Project Overview

This project simulates a structured onboarding experience for Pulse Health Clinic, a fictional healthcare organization. It was designed to address common onboarding challenges in healthcare environments by providing a consistent, accessible, and engaging pre-employment learning experience.

The course prepares new clinical and administrative staff with foundational knowledge before their first day, including organizational expectations, compliance requirements, essential tools, and employee benefits

Needs Analysis

Healthcare onboarding is often inconsistent, with new hires receiving fragmented information across departments. This can lead to confusion, reduced confidence, delays in productivity, and increased risk of compliance-related errors, especially in patient confidentiality and data handling.

Current State:

  • Onboarding varies across departments and managers
  • Information is delivered in an unstructured and inconsistent manner
  • New hires rely heavily on informal learning or shadowing

Desired State:

  • A standardized onboarding experience for all employees
  • Consistent delivery of essential organizational and compliance information
  • Improved readiness and confidence before starting job responsibilities

Gap:

There is no centralized onboarding solution that ensures consistent, scalable knowledge delivery prior to employment start.

Impact of Gap:

  • Delayed productivity during early employment stages
  • Increased HR and IT support demands
  • Higher risk of compliance and procedural errors

This identified the need for a structured, self-paced onboarding solution that ensures consistency, clarity, and accessibility for all new employees

Solutions and Learning Objectives

A modular onboarding course was designed using Articulate Rise 360 to deliver a structured, self-paced learning experience suitable for both clinical and administrative staff.

The design prioritizes clarity, engagement, and accessibility, allowing learners to progress through focused sections without cognitive overload.

Key Design Features:

  • Modular lesson structure for manageable learning segments
  • Scenario-based learning for compliance topics
  • Interactive elements (flip cards, accordions) for policy and benefits content
  • Labeled graphics and process blocks for system and role clarity
  • Knowledge checks to reinforce key concepts

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain Pulse Health Clinic’s mission, vision, and values
  • Identify their role expectations and responsibilities
  • Apply HIPAA and confidentiality principles in workplace scenarios
  • Navigate essential tools and identify support resources

Instructional Design Process(ADDIE)

Analyze

Identified inconsistent onboarding processes, fragmented information delivery, and compliance risks in healthcare environments.

Design

Created a modular learning structure to reduce cognitive load and support self-paced learning. Incorporated scenario-based learning for compliance-related topics to encourage real-world application.

Develop

Built in Articulate Rise 360 using:

  • Scenario-based confidentiality decision activity
  • Labeled organizational structure graphics
  • Process walkthroughs for tools and systems
  • Interactive elements (flip cards, accordions)
  • Embedded knowledge checks

Implement

Designed for LMS delivery (SCORM-compliant) as part of a blended onboarding program, including pre-boarding learning, live training, and job shadowing.

Evaluate

Effectiveness would be measured through:

  • Knowledge check scores (target: ≥80%)
  • New hire confidence surveys

Reduction in onboarding-related errors and support requests

Outcome and Impact

This onboarding solution demonstrates how structured instructional design can improve consistency, clarity, and early-stage readiness in healthcare environments.

By standardizing onboarding content and incorporating scenario-based learning, the course supports both knowledge retention and real-world application.

While this is a simulated project, it reflects authentic workplace challenges and demonstrates a scalable approach to improving onboarding efficiency and compliance readiness.
